Sustainability at WashMe

Sustainability at WashMe

A commercial laundry is a water-and-energy business. The machines run on electricity, the wash cycles heat hundreds of litres of water, and the delivery fleet covers 27 neighborhoods every day. So the environmental question for a laundry service isn’t whether it has an impact — it’s whether the business is working to reduce that impact in specific, measurable ways.

Here’s what WashMe does today.

Detergents and chemistry

We use eco-certified detergents for every wash cycle. The products are biodegradable, phosphate-free, and chosen to work effectively at lower temperatures — which lets us use the next two levers on this list.

For delicate items and colour wash cycles, we use cooler-temperature detergents designed to clean without needing the 60°C / 70°C heat that standard laundries default to.

Lower-temperature washing where it’s safe

Most cotton garments wash perfectly at 30–40°C with the right detergent. Heat is only strictly necessary for high-contamination items (hotel linens, kitchen textiles, heavily soiled towels) where hygiene standards require 60°C or higher.

Our sort-and-wash process separates high-temp items from the rest, so only the textiles that need heat get it. Everything else washes cooler, uses less energy, and comes out with less fabric wear.

Water recycling

Commercial laundry uses far more water than domestic. We capture and recycle rinse-cycle water through filtration, reusing it on appropriate subsequent wash cycles. It’s a standard industrial technique — but not every laundry does it. We do.

Hybrid delivery fleet

Our pickup and delivery vehicles include hybrid-engine options, which is practical for a Mijas Costa-to-Marbella run with lots of short urban trips. As electric vehicle range and charging infrastructure improve on the Costa del Sol, we’ll replace the remaining diesel vehicles.

Biodegradable packaging

Your laundry comes back in biodegradable wrapping, not single-use plastic. Wherever we can use reusable delivery bags (recurring host plans, commercial accounts), we do — it eliminates packaging entirely for those routes.

Solar at the facility

Our operational base in Urb. Riviera Sol runs on solar-generated electricity for a meaningful portion of daily energy use. It’s a coastal climate, so solar does real work here — not just marketing.

What we’re still working on

We’re honest about what isn’t solved:

  • Fully electric fleet — we’re not there yet. Hybrid is the current state.
  • 100% recycled-water washing — not possible for sanitary reasons; commercial laundry requires a mix.
  • Zero-packaging returns — we can do it for recurring accounts, but not every one-off pickup.

Sustainability for a commercial laundry is a continuous project, not a finished box. We’d rather tell you what’s real today than make a claim we can’t back up.
