Carvajal: the strip that changes hands twice a year

Carvajal is the last kilometre before Fuengirola hands over to Benalmádena, one stop past Torreblanca on the C-1 Cercanías, and its population works in shifts. From October to April the low beach blocks along the old N-340 fill with long-stay winter residents, many of them living here without a car. By July the same apartments have turned into holiday lets. We serve both shifts: fixed weekly pickups through the winter, linen changeovers in season.

The buildings decide the method. This is not tower-block Fuengirola: Carvajal kept its three- and four-storey blocks, small communities with no staffed desk and, in the older ones, no lift. The driver messages a few minutes out and meets you at the portal. Sea-side blocks lose their stopping space once summer parking arrives, so we agree a fixed handover point instead — the side street by the Carvajal train halt works for several regulars. On the hillside above, Reserva del Higuerón runs access control; a heads-up to security on the first order is all it takes.

Routing is the easy part. The van crosses Carvajal daily on the leg between Fuengirola and Benalmádena Costa, so a collection here rides an existing route, not a special trip. A winter resident's weekly bag of seven or eight kilos washes at €6.99 per kilo, comes back folded within 24–48 hours, and the 19:00–21:00 evening window is rarely tight on this stretch.
