Mijas Costa runs along one road — and we live on it

Mijas Costa is not a town. It is a chain of urbanisations strung along the A-7 between Fuengirola and Cabopino — El Faro, La Cala, Miraflores, Riviera del Sol, Calahonda — each hanging off its own exit and service road. Halfway along that chain, at Av. del Golf 25 in Riviera del Sol, stand our counter and our wash floor. This is our home municipality: the van passes every exit several times a day, and no address on the strip sits more than minutes from the machines — our fastest response zone.

The building stock barely changes from exit to exit: two- and three-storey complexes around a shared pool, townhouse phases climbing towards Miraflores Golf, and at El Faro a knot of low houses between the motorway and the sea, just below the Calaburras lighthouse. La Cala breaks the pattern. It is the only proper town centre on the strip — boulevard, the old watchtower on the beach, streets where stopping takes planning — so the driver messages on approach.

Living here has a concrete perk. A small load that will not reach the €49.50 free-collection threshold can be dropped at the counter, Monday to Saturday between 10:00 and 16:00, and picked up washed and folded a day or two later. Most neighbours here are year-round residents, so the rhythm is fixed weekly orders, usually in the 19:00–21:00 evening window.
